Compass bakery welcomes you to the 1st news letter, thank you to those who subscribed and have been eagerly awaiting this 1st instalment.

We have over 100 subscribers and to date have had over 42000 hits of the website since its inception and the monthly totals of daily visits is increasing.

Brief history:
  • The bakery was purchased in 1976 as a small family owned business situated in the Kommetjie village. In 1978 we started producing a variety of confectionery products for Woolworth's. In 1987, the Woolworth's Crunchie was developed, which catapulted us into the biscuit business.
  • In 1988 the biscuit production was moved to its current location and in 1997 an additional facility was added and the confectionery production moved here. Subsequently, a mezzanine floor was built, allowing for additional storage of finished goods and in 2007 the latest development is the construction of a new building which will receive/store and process all raw materials as well as housing the scaling area.
  • Compass continues as a family and extended family owned business.

Bakery news:

Bernard Scarlett has officially been the New GM for the passed 9 months and the ship is floating higher than ever.

Anthea Piedt joined the team as the head of technical department she worked along side him at Sea Harvest.

It is with sadness that we bid farewell to our head of R&D Liezel Huysamen who had been with Compass for three and a half years. We wish her great success in her relocation to JHB. This department too will be headed up by Anthea and Cheryl Field has been promoted internally to the top spot in out R&D department.

The latest development with the Woolworths lines we produce is:

That the re launch of the muffins has been a roaring success, and that in August 2008 we will be relaunching the new range of bar cakes which should too be more affordable in these tough trading times.

There are still crazy discounts in the factory shop.

Own Brand:

Xeros are moving like wild fire with the full range on the shelves

  • Double choc
  • Vanilla Choc
  • Shortbread
  • Ginger
  • Orange choc

We are looking to extend our own brand with some exciting new development and we would appreciate your input as to what biscuits do you really crave and are currently not produced at the moment.
